Join the YWCA Salt Lake City and other private nonprofit organizations working to end violence against women and girls in Utah. We will be rising on the South Steps of the Utah State Capitol. Wear pink and red and come prepared to DANCE as a show of support for the ONE BILLION RISING movement.
Everyone is welcome to come and dance as they please, however we will be hosting three practice sessions for the "Break the Chain" choreography at the YWCA, 322 E 300 S, Salt Lake City: February 6 at noon, February 7 at 5:30, February 13 at 7:00.
Families in the Salt Lake area will have just a little bit more help after the YWCA announced that it won a substantial grant.
The $49,782 one-year grant was announced Wednesday and comes from the Avon Foundation for Women. According to YWCA marketing and communication manager Mike Varanakis, the money will be used to create a new position at the Salt Lake Area Family Justice Center (SLAFJC). The new hire will help women impacted by domestic violence become economically self-sufficient, obtain housing and access other resources.
