2008 Family Violence Prevention Awards

2008 Family Violence Prevention Awards Presented During National Domestic Violence Awareness Month

"UDVC is pleased to recognize the efforts of law enforcement to make domestic violence intolerable at the annual UDVC Family Violence Prevention Awards event today. Law enforcement officers trained in domestic violence response provide critical services in responding to domestic violence calls,” states Caron Withers, UDVC Chair and Executive Director of New Horizons Crisis Center in Richfield.

On Monday, October 20, 2008, the Utah Domestic Violence Coalition recognizes the work of Detective Steve O’Camb of the West Valley City Police Department and the Domestic Violence Unit of the Salt Lake City Police Department at an awards luncheon for their efforts to end domestic violence in our community and in recognition of October as National Domestic Violence Awareness month.

“Although, we do not know how many lives are saved every day with the resources and services provided by trained law enforcement officers and domestic violence advocates, we do know that the work of law enforcement, local domestic violence coalitions and advocates to bring public awareness and resource information into communities is most effective when neighbors, coworkers, friends and relatives of families living in domestic violence situations actively listen, share resource information, call law enforcement and hold the perpetrator accountable.” notes Judy Kasten Bell, UDVC Executive Director.
